Do you travel a lot for business or pleasure, and want to know the best airports in the world? Here we attempt to rank the world's best and worst airports, and the gold medal goes unquestionably to Singapore's Changi Airport! Forbes, AirHelp.com and others publish their 2018 ranking of the world's best airports. They are based on three practical criteria in order of importance: punctuality of flights (departures and arrivals), quality of service and how passengers feel during their "stay" at the airport. The rankings were generated from the opinions of our passengers.
Asia tops the list of the world's best airports
"Basically, what unites these terminals is that getting there is the opposite of a chore," testify a majority of frequent flyers. "Passengers often find themselves wishing their layover could last a little longer so they could enjoy the IMAX cinema, the aquarium, the indoor jungle, the multi-storey slide, the swimming pool or even things they haven't even thought of yet." We'll have to acknowledge the major advance of airports located in Asia, which stand out by far from other airports located around the world. At the same time, Singapore's Changi, to name but one, is universally acknowledged to have set the bar very high when it comes to airport hospitality, with its butterfly-filled orchid gardens, movie theaters, food stalls and free foot massages.
13 of North America's major airports have only two airports in the top half of this ranking. Vancouver Airport (YVR), home to Cathay Pacific's impressive First and Business Class Lounge, was named the best airport in North America, and ranked 14th worldwide. Denver (DEN) was named the best airport in the USA, ranking 29th worldwide. Other major U.S. airports are well placed, such as Houston (IAH), 48th, Atlanta (ATL), 50th, San Francisco (SFO), 51st, Dallas/FortWorth (DFW), 56th, Seattle-Tacoma (SEA), 62nd, and New York (JFK), 69th. Our French airports: big absentees from the Top 10
With an estimated 184 million passengers in 2018, French airports are far from offering the best conditions for tourists. In a satisfaction survey carried out by Que Choisir magazine among passengers from eight countries, Orly and Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle came bottom of the list of the 32 airports handling more than 15 million passengers. Faced with this situation, most of France's airports have begun work. For example, the management of Paris Aéroport is to invest three billion euros to renovate terminals 2B and 2D at Roissy, including the extension of the link between these two terminals and the merging of the international terminals into T1... At Orly, following the inauguration in April 2016 of a new boarding hall capable of handling 1.9 million passengers, work continues on the 80,000 m² connecting building between the South and West terminals, scheduled for completion in 2019.
Not so far behind... the Province
In addition to France's two major airports, which account for over 51% of traffic, provincial airports serving between 3 and 15 million passengers also have their work cut out for them. In the Que Choisir rankings, Toulouse airport comes 9th, well behind Porto in Portugal. Nice airport is in 12th place and Bordeaux in 16th.
What do passengers think?
